The real problem is defining how the single player is different from multiplayer. Yet it still feels like a lack of innovation for single player. Mare Nostrum made the Berber states and Venice/merchant republics much more relevant in 1444, really slowing down expansion in northern Italy which is historical. That said tense multiplayer gameplay is slowed by new content like events which is why I believe the devs have not added a bunch of raw historical content. Playing against people will always be more intense than programmatic AI. It's easy underestimate how healthy a competitive scene is for a game. Also, keep in mind, it's a lot harder to justify keeping a bunch of devs on a project for bug fixing and QoL/balance tweaks if it isn't making money any more. Overall, the game is better for having DLC and continuous development even though there are problems that didn't exist two years ago. It takes a little longer to get to a pristine state, but the game itself is better for the wait. But the features added in, say, Conquest of Paradise or Res Publica is pretty much completely debugged. If you want a pristine but basic game, then never adding a new feature again will be the best bet. The ideal scenario is that new features are added at a rate similar to the rate of moderate or major bug fixes. ![]() Keep in mind, adding new features doesn't change the rate at which bugs are fixed, it just adds bugs to the list. If we do, some new bugs will be added that need to be fixed. If we don't, eventually the bugs will be fixed and the game will enter stasis, never to change again. Our second choice is to add new features (and new bugs) at some point after the game is released. Since creating the base game is adding new features, there is going to be a time period where there are bugs. First, we can take on the base game, and never add new features. Bugs are inevitable when new features are released. If, as you say, reducing the bugs is always going to be a problem than that is another way of say we should simply just live with the bugs. Love the idea, but I get a strong sense of "is this really what we needed?" when I think about it. I actually think it is the best example of feature creep for the sake of feature creep to date. This change is not even a little bit "connected to the base game". (Plus you can only do it every 2 years, and the AIs will beat you to it unless you watch those timers like a hawk.) I'd rather the DLCs had more things like this, were the DLC opens up new features for certain regions/governments. And (almost) no one in multiplayer is taking espionage.Īnd raiding coasts? That affects like 5 nations, you can play about 600 others without missing that feature. And very few AIs take espionage to do anything else, so really its only a useful thing in multiplayer. If the AI is trying to get claims they literally cant get caught below 10, so it doesn't stop that. Like raiding coasts and counterespionage? I used the counter espionage button once right after the patch, its completely irrelevant in the current implementation. While DLCs should includ bonus mechanics that you can still play the game without Result: Paradox is Swedish" Websites and Wikis Please use proper spoiler formatting if you are going to discuss spoiler content in non-spoiler threads: >!Paradox is Swedish!< Please mark a thread for spoilers if there's spoilers in the main post or if there's going to be open discussion of spoilers in the comments To avoid spoiling narrative surprises for others, please adhere to the following guidelines: If you want stricter quality control, go to /r/ParadoxPlaza For information on topics that are temporarily banned, please view our rules page.Ĭontent that breaks the spirit of these rules may be removed at moderator discretion.
